Had no trouble installing ForumBlog_03.10.01_Install.zip so thought I would install the source as well, just to see how things worked.

Unfortunately, I ended up with quite a few errors like this:

Failure File specified in the dnn could not be found in the zip file: DotNetNuke.Modules.Forum.dll

Failure File specified in the dnn could not be found in the zip file: DotNetNuke.Modules.Forum.Integration.dll
Failure File specified in the dnn could not be found in the zip file: DotNetNuke.Modules.Forum.SqlDataProvider.dll
Failure File specified in the dnn could not be found in the zip file: DotNetNuke.Modules.Forum.Popup.dll

Failure ExceptionSystem.Exception: Dnn load failed, aborting at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaDnnAdapter_V2.ReadDnn() in D:\inetpub\otherwww\vantug.new\dotnetnuke\components\ResourceInstaller\PaDnnAdapter_V2.vb:line 284 at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaInstaller.Install() in D:\inetpub\otherwww\vantug.new\dotnetnuke\components\ResourceInstaller\PaInstaller.vb:line 73

I tried removing the forum and blog modules and then installing the Source zip but no luck.  also tried reinstalling the Install zip (which worked fine) and then reinstalling the Source ip but that failed again.

Does anyone know why this is happening??  I am using DNN 3.1.0.

You don't install source through the portals module installer.  Source is only meant to be unzipped into yoru development directory.  This goes for any other module out there.

Thanks, that does make sense.  I guess I got misdirected because the readme file in the source zip is identical to the readme in the install zip;  it said to "Install this module as any other DNN private assembly." so I followed that instruction.

given that I am (obviously) a newbie to dnn, I have two questions:

1) are there any instructions on how to properly unzip the source zip file; ie where to put the source code??  just want to make sure I do this right.

I remember seeing some posts somewhere where there were some differing opinions; someone suggesting the source be put into the DeskTopModules folder whereas someone said to create a totally separate folder elsewhere. I would imagine that the DeskTopModules folder would be the proper place to put the code (say in a Forum subfolder)

2) if we havent installed the Install zip file (ie only unzipped the source zip to DeskTopModules), do we then just define a new module in DNN to be able to use it??
