After upgrading our dev site from 7.3.4 to 9.0.2 when we attempt to login into DNN using the login.aspx page we are capturing the following error:

Could not load file or assembly 'DotNetNuke.Mechanics, Version=9.0.2.6, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

   at Evoq.Content.Library.Components.Common.Mechanics.LogUserActivity(String actionName, Int32 portalId, Int32 userId)

   at System.Web.UI.Page.RaisePostBackEvent(IPostBackEventHandler sourceControl, String eventArgument)

   at System.Web.UI.Page.RaisePostBackEvent(NameValueCollection postData)

   at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint)

At this point we can not login to the site to check anything and are not sure what the problem is to try and move forward with the upgrade.

Any ideas or assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks,

John Wayda

Hi John,

This is a very odd error. I have never seem it nor was able to find any clues looking through Google. In my experience this usually means that something very unusually wrong happened  with your upgrade. I have 2 suggestions for you depending on your case:

1 - If you have a backup of the original DNN 7.3.4 site: The most natural course of action would be to try the upgrade again from the original site to DNN 9.1 - why not go to the last one now.

2 - If you don't have the original site, then I would go the long route of installing a fresh DNN 9.0.2 and run a file comparison between the problem site and the fresh site. You can use a tool like winmerge to help you compare 2 entire folder structures and all files under them. That would hopefully give you clues to what is different and you can potentially find the culprit like that. It is a time consuming strategy, but that would be how I would approach this.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Given that your trace back includes Evoq - presumably you are entitled to 'proper' support. What do the support people say?

Best wishes,
