I've made some progress toward getting this working. I now can log in with my windows ID.

My question now is, how can I get the site to automatically redirect to the (website)/DesktopModules/AuthenticationServices/ActiveDirectory/WindowsSignin.aspx page?

When I browse there directly, I get an automatic log inm which succeeds (when I'm logged into the network) .

At some point, it was attempting that page the first time I would try the URL for the website. But now it's no longer doing so. How do I get that to occur again?

Thanks

Tom

Since you're successfully using the AD Authentication Provider extension, I have a few more questions if you don't mind:

Can your users automatically log in? By this, I mean, if they are already logged into your organization's network, and they browse to your DNN intranet, are they logged in, or do they need to enter their username/password again?

When their password is changed in AD, does it get automatically updated in DNN?

Is this module still supported? When was the latest update? Is there any documentation out there?

Thanks again Michael!

Tom,

sorry, I have been away for a few days, so I could not answer your questions earlier.

  • My users do login automatically. If this is not working, deleting the cookies helps.
  • The password is not an issue. With every login, the password in DNN is set to another random password, and it is not used to authenticate. The Windows password is not stored in DNN itself.
  • About the support, I cannot say too much. Mike Horton is (or was?) responsible for it. If you wish to have a supported product, I would recommend Glanton's AD-Pro (http://modules.glanton.com/Active-Directory/AD-Pro-Authentication) - but this one is not for free.

Happy DNNing!
Michael

Hi again, A couple more questions for you Michael:
What version of DNN, and of the AD Authentication Provider are you running?
Are you using the setting in your web.config?

DNN 7.4.2, AD Provider 5.0.6

It's been a while since I installed the module for the first time (back in the days of DNN 4), so I don't know exactly which setting in web.config you mean. If it is the "identity impersonate..." stuff: no.

Happy DNNing!

Still trying to get this working. What I meant in my last question was, Which Password settings are you using in your web.config

Tom,

Password settings:

<add name="AspNetSqlMembershipProvider" type="System.Web.Security.SqlMembershipProvider" connectionStringName="SiteSqlServer" enablePasswordRetrieval="true" enablePasswordReset="true" requiresQuestionAndAnswer="false" minRequiredPasswordLength="7" minRequiredNonalphanumericCharacters="0" requiresUniqueEmail="false" passwordFormat="Encrypted" applicationName="DotNetNuke" description="Stores and retrieves membership data from the local Microsoft SQL Server database" />

Happy DNNing!
