The forum didn't let me send my reply so I'll try again.
For me, setting enablePasswordRetrieval to true causes "cant be retrieved" errors . When I set it to false, the sign in page works for me. I wonder why that's different for you. (And no, I'm not using Identity Impersonate) . AD authentication is working for me now, but the site doesn't automatically redirect to the sign in page (which could be easily worked around). I did have that part working before. Let me know if you have any other insights. And whether you have experience with the Glanton product. Still hoping to use this (free) one if it seems sustainable.

Thanks,

Tom

To be a bit more specific, with enablePasswordRetrieval set to "true", I get a fatal error on the site if I have the password set at "Hashed".
When I set it to "Encrypted" (as you did), the windows log in doesn't authenticate with the correct credentials.
When I set enablePasswordRetrieval to "False", AD authentication works.

Tom,

Did you enter the IP ranges of the computers that should sign in automatically (this can be done at Administrator :: Extensions, then edit the AD provider)?

Example:

10.100.0.0-10.255.255.255

If you have machines that shall not log in automatically you may turn off automatic login, assuming this machine has the IP address 10.100.100.100, then you can use:

10.100.0.0-10.100.100.99;10.100.100.101-10.255.255.255

I don't have personal experience with the Glanton product, but some people told me that it works great and also has more options than the free one. If you don't get answers here about it, you could join the DNN Connect group on Facebook and ask there - there are some people from Glanton as well.

I have read somewhere that the passwords have to be encrypted and not hashed, but I am using standard authentication as well (for people logging in from external, as we don't found a way to route the Windows credentials from the WAF to the Intranet server; and to be able to login as host when something should go wrong - which is an option I never needed so far).

Happy DNNing!
Michael

Thanks Michael, I did try the IP Address setting but to no avail. From what I understand, if you leave that field blank, everyone who hits the site should automatically be directed to the Windows sign-in page, and if you enter an IP Address (or range), those users from that IP Address (or within the range) will get the automatic redirect to the sign in page. But neither way is working me.
Thanks Again,
Tom

Tom,

Strange - I had the opinion that leaving this blank does not automatically login any user, by this might be a mistake of mine.

Does it work, when you call the script manually by entering this Url: [YOUR INTRANET ROOT URL]/DesktopModules/AuthenticationServices/ActiveDirectory/WindowsSignin.aspx ?

Sometimes it also helps when you delete your browser's cookies and try again...

Happy DNNing!
Michael
