AFAIK this option has always been turned on by default, maybe you stored different defaults for your site. Whether the print icon shows up in the container as well, depends on the container source, containing the appropriate control.

would you be so kind to let me know where the allow print is stored in the database so I can write an UPDATE script? 

How/where does one "store defaults for a site" exactly?

UPDATE {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}TabModules SET DisplayPrint = 0 WHERE DisplayPrint = 1. I have no clue, how defaults are stored, maybe using Module "Export Template"
