Setting up languages in DNN

Hi, never used language packs before,so after an inquiry from a colleague I jumped straight to the languages section of the site and to test I added the default installed german language pack. It stuck a little german flag on the header, so great I thinks! job done.

However, it does not translate anything!!!!! even static text in headers or menus??????

but now I cannot disable the language without my home page (only my home page) having a 404 error. So question is how do I get back without restoring site and database to previous point.

And are there any instructions, books or guides on how to implement language translation.

Any advice greatly appreciated in advance

Stuart,
language packs are installed using Host > Extensions (DNN <= 8) or PB > Settings > Extensions (DNN 9).
Go to Available Extensions tab and choose type "Core Language Pack" from DDL. Deploy German language pack.
Now (after an app restart), if you click German flag, you should see static resources like "Login" being translated.

For translating page content, you'll need to enable and activate DNN Content Localization and translate and publish your content.

Thanks Sebastian, now the next question is where do find out how to enable and activate localisation??

Also is it possible to disable the language and get back to where I was before (at moment I get 404)

once you add a language, DNN adds primary portal aliases for each language. if you deactivate a language, this should get reverted.
for you other question, would you mind to tell us the DNN version you are using - it is hard, to provide information for any of it.
