You used to be able to edit the privacy statement and terms of service through the Languages page and change the values in the GlobalResources localization file using the Language Editor, but that seems to be missing in 9.  This is my first time using DNN 9 and it seems really stripped down.  Are these things missing, or are they hidden?  I searched the documentation at http://www.dnnsoftware.com/docs/ and couldn't find anything.

 

It would also be nice to be able to change the e-mail (global variable) used in the privacy statement and terms of use as changing the admin email doesn't seem to work.

it's a bit difficult to find, but it is there. A lot of the logic changed in DNN 9, and functions are grouped different than before.

In the Persona bar, go to Settings :: Site Settings, ten chose the tab "Languages". In the language list, click the icon on the left site (that looks a bit like a chinese letter and an A) to find the language editor. In the dropdown list, open the folder "Global Resources" and click the "GlobalResources" file. Find the records with the Resoure Name "MESSAGE_PORTAL_PRIVACY.Text" and "MESSAGE_PORTAL_TERMS.Text" and change the localized value as you need it. The button "Save translations to file" can be found on the top of the page, near the dropdownlist for the resource file.

Ah, I see it now.  Thanks! I was mainly hoping to change the e-mail as I didn't want the e-mail that I used to set up my site to be the one visible to be harvested by spam bots, but it looks like it's using a [Portal:Email] variable.  I tried changing my admin account e-mail, but that doesn't seem to be where it is retrieving that value, so it had no effect.  I could manually change it everywhere using the MESSAGE_PORTAL_PRIVACY.Text" and "MESSAGE_PORTAL_TERMS.Text" localization values, but just to be safe in case it might be used on some other page that I'm not aware of, where can that Portal:Email variable be updated?

That setting is buried pretty deep.  Do you know why there is such a drastic change in the DNN 9 UI ?  I hate to nitpick as it is still a great platform, but the changes don't seem to be very intuitive and could confuse most users.

please note an issue with HTML encoding in the Language Editor of DNN 9.
Either use a dedicated page and HTML module for this purpose or use a different editor for the resource files.
This should be fixed in DNN 9.2.0

Not sure I see the issue.  I'm running 9.01.01 and I'm able to make changes to the terms of use and privacy statements (I just manually changed the [Portal:Email] tag to an e-mail I don't mind getting spammed), and they saved just fine without having to use an HTML module or a different editor.  


Though, it would be nice to update the global variables like [Portal:Email], but I just can't seem to find where they are stored.  Went through all the tables in the database that looked like it might be storing info like that and couldn't find anything.
