Hi,

I am using DNN 3.3.2, MS SQL 2005 and Server 2003 with Small Business Server

This is very frustrating! I have tried everything in a the web.config construction string after setting up the blank database and assigning a dbo user name and password. I can connect my server in the MS SQL Server Management Studio under the dbo user account no problem.

Niether of the below work..see errors below each connection string...

<add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=REALSENSE1\SHAREPOINT;Database=DotNetNuke;uid=tfanara;pwd=vn1993;"  />

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

<add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=REALSENSE1\SHAREPOINT;Database=DotNetNuke;uid=tfanara;pwd=vn1993;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

Parser Error Message: Unrecognized attribute 'providerName'

any help would be greatly appeciated...!

thanks,

Tom

is this in a hosted environment or local?  did you try using the sql IP instead of name?  can you move the DB to REALSENSE1 (not the sharepoint instance)?

Hi,

Yes it is local. Is the SQL IP the IP of the machine? I tried that still the same problem. Yes I'll reinstall SQL differently next time and try it.

Hi,

What would my web.config connection string look like if I have the database setup as local or the default is set to local?

Hi,

I finally solved it by removing Small Business Server and Sharepoint which was messing up my database permissions. Then I reloaded MS SQL and configured my own instance name "REALSENSE1" and used the normal web.config db connection string syntax and it worked fine.

thanks for the replies

Tom
