Hi all,

I know this issue has been mentioned before in these forums. Only presently I am running into this situation knowing something is not OK with IIS. I try to start the installation of Dotnetnuke 4.3 using the Starter Kit in my VS 2005 Express IDE with a 180 days trial version of SQL server 2000 running under my Windows XP Professional SP2 operating system on my Sony laptop. My connection string settings in my web.config file are of course used for SQL2000, by uncommenting this from the original delivered web.config file (in the downloaded package from dotnetnuke.com) and commenting the SQLEXPRESS part. My connection string looks like this under:

<connectionStrings>

<!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express

<add

name="SiteSqlServer"

connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;"

providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

-->

<!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 -->

<add

name="SiteSqlServer"

connectionString="Server=(local);Database=MYDNN;uid=PETER\PeterVerbeek;pwd=amsterdam;"

providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

</connectionStrings>

and under:

<appSettings>

<!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules

<add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;"/>

-->

<!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules -->

<add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=(local);Database=MYDNN;uid=PETER\PeterVerbeek;pwd=amsterdam;"/>

So to me this looks OK.  In the SQL2000 Enterprise Manager I made the new database MYDNN with owner permissions for user PeterVerbeek.  The same under IIS for the virtual directory under C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\MYDNN.

  • So where does it go wrong, or in other words where specifically fails the result due to my present settings ?
  • Is it, something I read in the forums, that one needs to use the user ASPNET (for XP) in order to give the worker process (!) all the necessary full permissions ? I did use ASPNET as user for SQL database and ISS, but ended with  the same unwanted result.
  • Can anyone shed some light on this matter, or link me through a discussion on one of these forums?

HELP IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED, as I like to try out the new DAL from Michael Washington and the free Module 1: Profile Details from Cathal Connolly's site.  All great exciting stuff!

Regards,

PeterNL

You should: 1. Add ASPNET user to database users with db_owner permissions 2. Give write access to ASPNET user on your DNN folder. I hope it will help you.

Thanks for your attention, time and advice, but

Not quit yet......one step deeper in the installation problems with DNN: this is what I get now:

DotNetNuke Upgrade Error

The Assembly Version ( [ASSEMBLYVERSION] ) does not match the Database Version ( [DATABASEVERSION] )

ERROR: Could not connect to database.

Login failed for user 'ASPNET'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.

  • Can someone pls.bring some step by step solution on this issue,

Thanks again.

Kind regards,

check your db setup: which registration modes are allowed and how is the db user account configured.
