New Community Website

Ordinarily, you'd be at the right spot, but we've recently launched a brand new community website... For the community, by the community.

Yay... Take Me to the Community!

Welcome to the DNN Community Forums, your preferred source of online community support for all things related to DNN.
In order to participate you must be a registered DNNizen

These forums have been suffering for so long.... and cumbersome to use.  This is dated stuff!

Is it time to move this forum somewhere else, or upgrade the forum software?

Issues include:

  • No image upload
  • Weird text editors
  • Flaky notifications
  • Poor support, activity from DNN execs/staff.
  • Duplicate posts often appearing (buggy)
  • Hard to find / confusing on the DNN site menu
  • Recent discussion about Active Forums...
  • etc...

So....It may be time to move this entire thing to Facebook or some other system where some semblance of community and social interaction is possible.  Apart from the user groups that already exist on FB, is there a better idea/group?

I might start up a general Facebook group to discuss DNN outside of the user-groups that already exist.

Community is at the heart of achievement.  This forum IMO is an anti-pattern to community engagement.

Thoughts?

Well, there are so many places that you can communicate and get involved these days (Fall 2018) that there's no shortage of places to go and get help, share suggestions and be involved. Although the Forum structure/concept is an old one, for older folks that are used to a certain structure, the model still works well and gives the type of question/answer/search help that is needed.

OH, and "dated stuff" is sorely needed when you are supporting sites that range from DNN 5 through DNN 9... just because it's dated doesn't mean that someone doesn't desperately need the older forum post! Myself, I've found useful a post I made 4 years back where I helped answer someone's question... I helped myself 4 years later when I'd forgotten the details of the answer!

I'd say that, before throwing out the Forum model, I'd recommend jumping in with both feet and becoming the change that you wish to see... respond to posts, ask questions and see where you can pitch in.

But the original point was that there are many places now to participate and get questions answered and concerns posted. Here are a few:

1. User Groups

The User Groups are a great starting point... if you're feeling isolated and aren't hearing people talk heavily about DNN, then you just need to stop by a User Group to get energized and directed to the right locations

Toronto Area DNN User Group

2. DNN Open Friday

Another initiative from TADUG's Aderson Oliveira is the Slack Workgroup, "DNN Open Friday" where DNN MVPs, developers, clients and users mix to ask questions and get immediate answers and suggestions. Way more immediate and satisfying than a forum, the Slack work group helps get things done!

3. Github Participation

As the community continues to drive and become more involved within platform update and new release activities, the github locaiton is increasingly becoming a place to post bug issues, new feature suggestions for discussion and to, in general, watch things get done in DNN updates. Once you're sure you have a bug or solid feature request, this is the place to post.

4. DNN Connect Facebook Group

Finally, and not least, is the DNN Connect Facebook group... you started out asking about whether there was a Facebook group that helped perform the actions and activity/participation that you were missing from within the DNN site forums. This is the locaiton you're looking for. There is heavy activity and a wide range of developers, users, MVP and more who participate here on the regular.

There are plenty more places to participate in the type of share, help and information actions that you're looking for. I hope to see you at an upcoming SoFri !

Hi Rod,

Yes, I agree with you. This forum is just no longer enough to keep up with the demands of modern communication. That is why there are so many other ways to discuss DNN. I won't restate all that Ryan has already mentioned on the previous post as he was very comprehensive already but I will reinforce 2 of them:

1 - The DNN Connect Facebook Group - I cannot tell you how many times this group has helped me, and I'm not talking about days after asking a question. I'm talking about minutes/hours. So please join us there;

2 - The DNN Open Friday - This is a live weekly virtual meetup where we come together real-time as a community to help each other. It happens every Friday from 10 am to 2 pm Eastern time and you are welcome to join https://deskpal.com/open - It is all done via Slack.

Join us - give and take - make it better! ;)

Cheers,

Aderson

Issues on this forums module are known - development had been sunsetted nearly a decade ago, but noone was able to migrate the forums yet.
unfortunately, Q&A module seems to fin just the needs of some of our users.
If you are looing for a FB group, the "official" group for users would be https://www.facebook.com/groups/DNNso..., which benefits from very little restrictions.
Verified issues should be posted at https://github.com/dnnsoftware/Dnn.Pl..., but it depends on public demand, whether it will be fixed soon.
Most of the user groups are on very low level due to missing support, I doubt, there is a chance to re-animate soon, as users moved to different products.

Cheers from Germany,

I'd have to echo what Ryan Moore and Aderson Oliveira said. Have a great day! :)
