For a DNN4 site hosted in a co-location centre I want to allow users on a corporate network to stay logged in at all times.  I assume this is best done by using cookies which renew or refresh login and session details associated with our corporate IP address\es.  When the user is not connected to the corporate LAN (e.g. travelling with notebook or using a public machine) I want to use default DNN security.  Can anyone explain how I might go about doing this?

you need to set the forms authentication timeout value to something approriate, and ensure that your users check the remember me checkbox the first time they log in. See http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Blogs/tabid/825/EntryID/233/Default.aspx for some asp.net 2.0 specific details
