Thank you very much for the reply, Sebastian.

Is there an easier way to assign the user directly to a role?

I know the username from the 'Users' table and the role ID from the 'Roles' table.

You may run
INSERT INTO dbo.UserRoles (UserID, RoleID, Status)
SELECT @RoleID, UserID, 1 FROM dbo.Users WHERE UserName = N'yourName'
but this will fail, if the user is already added.

Ok Sebastian. Thank you for the reply. This means we need to check if the user is already added with the role ID, then it fails? So need to check the username and role id combination availability and then only need to add it? Is that what you meant?

if you are using merge, you don't need to check for being added already.

WHEN NOT MATCHED THEN INSERT (RoleID, UserID, Status) VALUES (S.RoleID, S.UserID, 1)

You may adopt the SELECT according to your table(s) to obtain the UserIDs to add.

What is the dbo.UserPoints table?
