Hi All,

I migrated DotNetNuke version 3.1.0 from WindowsXP with MSDE2000 to Windows2003 with SQL2000/SP4. The .Net version was kept at 1.1. I changed the DB connection string in web.config and changed the permissions on the base folder of DNN within wwwroot.

When I browse to he site I get the following. Can you please help?

Server Error in '/' Application.

This is often a problem with the application pool.  The troubleshooting is different between IIS5 and IIS6, and since you moved to Windows2003 you're on IIS6.  So skip to the last suggestion of this thread to see if it helps:

You can also review this:

This looks pretty good too:

There are many good hits if you Google the phrase "This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS".  I just grabbed a few I thought look particularly useful for you.

Thanks Shane,

Great work, problem sorted. The application pool was not linked to the dnn virtual folder.

Appreciate your knowledge and assistance.

Just upgraded a 3.1.1 site to 3.3.6 and got this error.

Turns out that there was an old web.config file in the /Install folder.

Removed it and the install was successful.
