Hi everyone, there is light at the end of the installation procedure on godaddy root.

I managed to install 4.3.3 on the root folder of godaddy!

I must say THANK YOU to the beautiful souls - briandus and MichaelWinter that help so much.

Although it didnt work for me the first 3-4 times with MichaelWinter instructions (http://www.northernstarsolutions.com/Troubleshooting/GodaddyHosting/tabid/61/Default.aspx), it was certainly a beginning of understanding how the website works.

then briandus showed up and cleared the web.config issue for me. since I am no programmer  I dont know anything of this stuff, so following briandus instructions (http://www.virtual-essentials.com/DotNetNuke/GoDaddyInstallation/EightSimpleStepstoInstall/tabid/78/Default.aspx) I managed to get to the famous error:

DotNetNuke Configuration Error

Access to the path 'd:\hosting\rootfolder\web.config' is denied

...

so I kept on digging and found my saviors - dempseyonline and pamvcl (blessed be thy names)

the switching of web.config after copying it from \Config\BackupNNNN to the root did it!

Before all this, I couldn’t even get a reasonable error message.

So all of you who didnt get it to work yet and are still struggling, dont give up, there are wonderful people out there who will help you go through this.

now its time to get to the dark of DotNetNuke and do something usefull with it.

thanks again and good luck

Tammy, did you install DNN on a shared hosting plan, or virtual dedicated plan?  On shared hosting, godaddy.com doesn't allow root access.

I'm having the same issue with dnn installed on a subdirectory, so my www.domain.com page is left without dnn.  Doesn't make sense to me.  By the way, I'm an idiot also, when it comes to this.

Hi Garry

I Installed DNN to the root folder of my Godaddy account, I am on a shared hosting account on Godaddy (Deluxe Plan).

Belive me when I say that it works, just follow after the instructions that MichaelWinter and briandus on their websites plus the replacement of web.config as I wrote in this thred and it will work eventualy.

Good luck.

I followed these same directions just now and after more than a week of trying to get it to work, it finally came up. Just copy the web_.config from the backup dir to the root (I FTPed it back to myself, renamed it, then sent it back to the root) and the install proceeded perfectly.

Yahoo! Now I can actually get the site developed. Next test will be to get the backup scripts working on GoDaddy.

I followed the instructions but the site would not compile.

The visible difference is that I was trying to install into a sub-domain http://mysub.domain.com (which can also be accessed as http://domain.com/mysub) and I created all directories like App_data in the sub. I do not think GoDaddy's sub-domain are a real thing as there is no separate password for it. Any suggestions?
