I need some help linking my dotnetnuke database to Microsoft Access.  I need to do a lot of data transfer from an old web site database to dotnetnuke.  The easiest way i can think of is to link dotnetnuke database.mdf into access, open the old web database in access.. and write some action queries or modules to update the information.

I am using SQL Server Express Edition 2005.  Every time i try to create a SQL file connection to the databases.  I get the following error.

"failed to generate a user instance of SQL server due to a failure in starting a user instance.  The connection is being closed."

My main issue is i have 600 users in a simple database and i really really dont want to type them all back into dotnetnuke manually.

Thanks for your help.

Ok i love posting on boards.. cause it means i am very close to figuring it out myself.  So here i go answering my own question.

First install SQL Server Express edition Advanced.

Open SQL Server Management Studio Express

Click on Databases

Link a File Database

Select the MDF of your dotnetnuke database

Now open MS access

Link Tables from ODBC

Select SQL Server

Select the connected linked file

Link just the DBO tables..

There ya go.. you now have full access to your DNN Tables
