I recently installed DNN on our staging server, configured, setup one website (awesome concept, by the way) and now I am ready to move it to our production server (Win 2003, SQL 2000).  In doing this these are the steps I followed:

  1. Backed up database
  2. Zipped existing directory (from staging server).
  3. Restored backup into production server's database.
  4. Created the user account (they were exactly the same so that I would not have to change the web.config file)
  5. Unzipped folder.
  6. Created the webdirectory exactly as I have it on our staging server.

For some reason it gives me a "Server Error in "/DNN" Application" and it gives me the generic message that I need to change the web.config CustomErrors Mode attribute to Off, which I did.  This, however did not address the issue of displaying the actual error message so at this point all I have is this generic error message and the steps I have taken to migrate the software to offer as information.  What am I missing in terms of migrating and also with the web.config file not displaying a more descriptive message?

Thank you for your help,

Danny

Update:

I was able to overcome this first issue with the web.config file.  What I noticed it is doing, is re-routing the site to its original address (http://localhost/dotnetnuke) so there has to be a place either in a configuration file or in the database where this is saved.  I tried looking at the Site Settings in the portal but I could not find a place where this is saved.  Any ideas where this is saved?

try going to Admin>>Site Settings.  At the bottom of the page you will find the portal aliases.

You won't see it in Site Settings unless you are logged in as host, or another SuperUser account.
