Hi Geert
yes i have 2 applications.  These are;

1 - http://viewmobile/viewtechnology (dnn 4.3.1)
2 - http://viewmobile/coralsolutions (dnn 4.3.3)

I managed to install the 4.3.3 app by changing the default application in IIS to point to the physical location of the 4.3.3 application.  ie;

..coralsolutions\website

I then browsed to the first application (http://viewmobile/viewtechnology) and got the "siteSqlerror".  I can continually flip between the applications only by changing the default app in IIS.  Whichever is not the default will get the error.

When you say "The application in the virtual directory is now inheriting the settings from the web.config in the web root",  does this mean that the web.config is being loaded from the default IIS application (coralsolutions at the moment) and then also trying to load web.config from the other app i'm trying to load?.. How do i overcome this?

I know the answer is probably straight forward but it just hasnt clicked in my head yet!.. thanks for your patience.

Cheers
John

Could it be that IIS 5.1 on XP Pro only allows you to have 1 website running at any given time?.

Only having one site is an XP Pro limitation.  Download IIS Admin.Net and you can use this to easly switch between web sites.  You can then update your host file so that you now have viewtechnology.com and voralsolutions.com.  Using IIS Admin.Net you create each web site and in IIS you can set the host header to the correct domain above.

I am planning to blog on using IIS Admin.Net within the next 3-4 days, so keep an eye on my blogs for more information.
