Believe me, I understand your frustrations.  I am a strong advocate against development for the core project competing with 3rd party developers.

You might also notice that I have a substantial amount of posts on the ASP.Net forum, so for them to just go away really does mean something to me also.

I guess I shouldn't have posted to this thread since being on the core team automatically puts me in direct opposition to anyone that complains about how the project is being ran.

I was only trying to say that all those posts are not gone.  You can still search on those forums and read them, although I do prefer specific site searches from google.

Yes, the breadcrumbs do come back to here, probably because the are pulled from the same data that makes the main links, but I don't think it was done with the intention of trying to pull people into "The Collective" against their will.

I won't debate the issue though, because if there is a debate and we have to choose sides, then I like your side better.

Sincerely though, I really do wish there wasn't this "us and them" perception.
Maybe it is a natural thing when classifications are setup, but I sure do miss the good 'ol days when we were all working together.

You can still get to the forums - looks like they've just redirected the main link on the group.

Use this link if you want to get to the old forums http://forums.asp.net/90/ShowForum.aspx

These forums just aren't as comfortable as the asp.net forums and many other forums.  Too much scrolling required.  You've got a banner ad across the top below the skin header...a whole pane filled with ads to the right...  Every click requires scrolling.

I personally don't think these forums are as conducive to participation as other options.  I'm not sure if this is the only reason for the lack of participation and utility of these forums but I think it's worth noting.

I'm too poor for anything other than the community version

Boy, go on vacation for a little bit and come back to a changed world.

I also want to voice my frustration at the loss of all these years of public content and support.  I understand that the core team is doing a lot more work and support than they bargained for and splitting attention between 2 support sites was getting very difficult.

However, the 2 forums served different and unique information spaces - e.g. Implementation of DNN sites vs Implementation of the DNN product

If you wanted to get general help on a DNN site implementation question (e.g. what module to use; skin development issues; PA development; etc.), go to ASP.Net.  If you had an issue with the core or a core module, then go to dotnetnuke.net (core bugs; roadmaps; etc.).   Now it's all muddled up and there's not clear information about where to post things or where to find the help you need.

My immediate questions are:

1) Where do people with older DNN sites to support go for help?  This site is always focused on the latest and greatest versions of the core product (and well it should be).  However, there is not always a business case to upgrade existing sites to the hottest new version so there is still a need to support older versions of the codebase.

2) The architecture of this site is focused on the programmer's view of the product, not the implementor's or the admin's view.  Will there be forums for:  general questions,  new adopters support, module development, etc. like on the old forum?  If this is to be our one source for information the information architecture needs to reflect the needs of the users not the needs of the developers.

3) Will the search be fixed? The search on this forum is unusable.  I tried to find information about the forum switch over using search and found nothing. I had to page through several forum areas before I found this posting.

I'm not trying to bash the core team or anyone on it with this. One of the key features that has helped DNN get to where it is now is that there has been terrific pubic support on the product.  It's how I sell customers on it, no one will commit to open source software that does not have a rich support (and by this I mean site implementation support) environment.

Thanks for your great effort, this is really good stuff here and honestly, if I wasn't already over-committed I'd help here too.
