Hi,

I have a question about the way DNN matches up the proper portal directory, i.e. Portal/0, Portal/1, etc. with the incoming URL. A cursory look at the code and the database seems to indicate that this is done using the SP GetPortalByAlias and the two tables PortalAlias and Portals. The HTTPAlias column in the PortalAlias table will get you the portal id. With that you can get the Portal/x part from the Portals table. I verified that column HTTPAlias changes when I sign on as host and change the portal alias. However, the change is not immediate. The HTTPAlias is persisted in memory or maybe a cookie. That is what I am not sure about. I tried clearing the cache but that didn’t seem to work. I am running this on a desktop with Win XP and IIS 5.1 so I decided to just do a brute force reboot. After that the new alias worked. How do you force the use of a new portal alias with a little less “force”? Can someone enlighten me and point me to some code in DNN that will give me a better grasp of what is happening with portal management?

Thanks for the help,

GM

The guts of the PortalAlias lookup happens in the UrlRewriter module in the OnBeginRequest method.

Using the interface should clear the cache automatically, but another way is to "touch" the web.config file.
