Caz,

I hate to disappoint you but you won't get it working.

I used 1and1 for several years and when I decided to implement DNN on my shared plan, I ended spending about a month spinning my wheels.  I spent hours on the phone with their third level techs that couldn't figure it out.

They claim to support it, however they are very restrictive on anything writing to disk which is essential to having DNN run correctly.  They also do not support non-standard web.config settings which DNN uses heavily.

Save yourself some headaches and find another provider or go with a dedicated server like I did (more expensive yes, but well worth doing whatever you want on your own machine).

Regards,

Shawn

Hi Caz,

I have about 30 domains with 1and1, and I tried, and tried, and tried..... for about two weeks with their tech support, which took days to incorrectly answer my questions, to set up DotNetNuke. No matter what we tried, it would not work.

While searching google for "1and1 dotnetnuke", I came across many posts from people with the same experience. It seems that they are just not set up right for it, but don't want to admit it. I don't think they even advertise DNN actually.

I signed up with webhost4life.com, and was up and running in an hour. They have great tech support, and an install program for DNN right in your control panel. Go to the Live Chat on their home page, they will help you set up.

Good Luck,
ksoszka

Hi,

if you will try a other hoster so you can try www.domainbox.de too.  They have a german support, and have fair prices.

I know some truble by hosters if you install the DNN from the "PLESK" Admin-Hosting-Software, and you will update to a newer version.  so I can say, do a manual install on all Portals, with the install files from Dotnetnuke.com.

For other providers you must know that you must have write acess to the folder you will install DNN.  Somtimes you have install DNN in a seperate folder, so you can change the acess permissions for the folders.

Regards

Matthias

DNN 4.3.4 will work with 1and1's MS Developer package.  You'll need to follow the instructions here http://faq.1and1.com/scripting_languages_supported/asp_net/dotnetnuke/4.html.  They do work.  I'm no DNN expert, but email me if you need help (bcash07@comcast.net).  I just set it up yesterday, so I don't know yet how reliable it will be, but it is working so far.
