Hi,

I want to upgrade my site from DNN 3.2.2 to 4.3.x I have installed quite some modules and running on asp v1.1
What are the steps to take to upgrade. I also want al my modules to work in 4.3 as they work now under 3.2.2
So do i have to do an upgrade? or a fresh install.
What steps do i have to do to accomplish my goal?

Hi,

use the upgrade install instead of install, it does not contain new module versions. For 3rd party modules check the developers' sites for DNN4 comatibility, especially modules, that deal with user profile and registration.

Steps for upgrade:

  • backup files and database
  • copy web.config to web_bak.config
  • Remove all source code
  • extract upgrade package over existing files
  • copy encryption keys, database connection, object qualifier and your individual enhancements from web_sav.config to release.config
  • copy release.config to web.config
  • het your site to start upgrade installation

Very good!

Only one more question, in which stadium do i change (on the server side) asp.net v1.1 which i'm using at this moment to asp.net v2
This seems to me the biggest issue, and i'm still not sure if i can do an upgrade, or that i have to do a complete new installation (which i don't want)
This issue scares me a bit, because i don't want the installation to be corrupted.

As I understand, it is not possible to upgrade from 3.x to 4.x

I have upgraded sites from 3.2.2 to 4.3.5 and the process is fairly straight-forward. The ReadMe inside the 4.3.5 Upgrade package covers the main points.

The steps I use are as follows:

1. get current 3.2.2 web.config, back it up and use it to build a new web.config based on the 4.3.5 release.config

2. load the 4.3.5 upgrade files on top of the current DNN 3.2.2 files

3. change ASP.Net to 2.0 (or get your ISP to do it)

4. load your rebuilt 4.3.5 web.config

5. go to the site - and it should start upgrading
