Here's an interesting thing.  When I setup the install app I had set the path as an application folder.  After running the DNN install I got your blank screen and then the above error.  When I checked WebFiles again, the path was no longer designated as an application folder.  I re-designated it at such and although I didn't get it to work... I can see it's trying now.

My latest error:

Server Error in '/AlphaSite' Application.

Could not load file or assembly 'DotNetNuke.WebUtility' or one of its dependencies. The parameter is incorrect. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070057 (E_INVALIDARG))

And then it lists all kinds of other stuff beyond that.

I may try a fresh install since I was messing with this one so much prior to realizing the Application path had reset on me.  Somthing to check.

IT WORKS!

OK... here is what I did differently this time around.

This time I emptied out as much as possible from my 1and1 account.

  • Deleted existing database and setup a new one (and did not touch the new one)
  • Deleted as many files and folders as I could (Web wouldn't let me delete the logs folder)
  • I put the DNN zip in a folder titled OriginalZip and then unzipped using webfiles to the root.
  • Webfiles unzips to a folder with the same name as the zip file so I renamed DNNTest
  • Downloaded, made specified changes (other postings) to web.config file.  Deleted the copy off the server and re-uploaded.
  • Installation was successfull AND DNN works now!

It's been working for a solid 3 hours at the time of this writing, I managed to install additional skins, go through all the host and admin settings, etc etc.  The only time I encounterd an error was when trying to edit a link I had inserted into the links module earlier.

This process is getting old, but I'll keep trying!

I followed the same guidelines to install DNN 4.3.4 into a subfolder named "DNN-LSS" and have twice gotten the following error:

Server Error in '/' Application.

The resource cannot be found.

Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.  Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

Requested URL: /Default.aspx

The domain in my control panel [lightspeedsolutions.net] is pointed to the "DNN-LSS" subfolder.  If I browse to http://www.lightspeedsolutions.net/DNN-LSS/default.aspx, a more specific runtime error is displayed (although technically, this path should not be found, since the domain is already pointed to the "DNN-LSS" folder.

The DNN-LSS folder has been designated as an application via the Control Panel WebFiles, and the proper permissions have been applied to the folder.

I have updated the database settings per the English and the German FAQ pages; disabled the changes in max file size, and enabled impersonation.  I believe that's everything...!

I am new to DotNetNuke. I have been trying to install to a 1&1 MS Hosting Account with little success untill one of the last post in this list. I used webfiles and deleted everything in the root directory except logfiles. I copied the DotNetNuke_4.3.4_install.zip file to root and unzipped it. It created a default dir for the zip file. I then changed the directory name to my domain name. I then made it an application through webfiles and made sure the IUSER and NETWORK user had read, write, modify and read & execute permissions for all files and subdirectories under that dir. I changed the web.config as the 1&1 faq explains how to do for the sql access, I also commented out the sqlexpress lines. It is working with a few hicups but I am still working those out. In the root dir I put a default.asp that redirects to the default.aspx in the new dir.

I got it to work with a sub-directory and I started a new thread last night showing how I did it but my post isn't showing up.   Anyone know what I'm doing wrong.  I really don't want to type all of my instructions again!!!
