DNN 4.0
WebHost4Life.com is the host provider

I have created one portal and got it the way I wanted it.

Then I decided to create a second portal. Changed my mind and deleted it.

Now, certain pages on the initial portal present the following problems. Not no two on the same page.

  1. "Could Not Load Container: /jjjones3860/Diary/Portals/_default/Containers/DNN-Blue/Image Header - Color Background.ascx" (full error text below) - The file does exist in this location!
  2. Images embedded in Text/HTML show as broken images
  3. "A critical error has occurred. Object reference not set to an instance of an object"

What could be going on? How do I fix this please.

Jeff

Full error text of error #1 from above:

Seems to me you deleted the _default folder - which in my opinion shouldn't really be allowed to happen.
I suggest you download and unzip a local copy of the version you have installed and ftp back up to the Portals folder, the _default folder which is holding the skins and containers required to be displayed and used.

Alternatively you can try changing the skin in the admin/settings and host/settings area with pre defined skins since leaving it to be default appears to leave it looking for the skins in the _default folder.

Hope this helps.

Hi Nina,

And thanks for the assist. However, after changing the Site and Host skin/container settings to specific values, no change in the error. I changed everything to green and it still reported the error for blue.

The _default folder and all files/dirs under it do exist.

However, by editing the specific module's container (Module Settings + Page Settings + Basic Settings > Module Container) and specifically setting it to BLUE, the error went away. This error was appearing on several pages and modules on my site, but not all pages nor all modules. If I changed the above setting for the module that appeared after the error on the page, the error goes away!

That seems to take care of the "could not load container" error. I still have the other errors and will now try to address those.

The second error seems to be tied to the Gallery module and removing that cleared that error.

Now for the Text/HTML modules which had embedded images, I just re-edited them and re-added the image and it seems to work.

What went wrong? If anyone has any ideas - I would love to hear it.

Actually I did not read it clearly - you stated you had it in place, I apologise for that -

You know when you get these errors - simply going into the module settings and clicking update often helps. I wonder if it was a cache issue or synchronisation requirement.

I should have read your post more carefully -

It also seems that the file paths could have gone awol.. yes I know, not an answer *sigh* but you have my sympathy- I think these things we do turn into mistakes and are sent to pay us back for some obscure thing we must have done in our childhoods, that until now - no other punishment fit!

I had a similar problem when I moved my host path (from domain/DNN/ to domain/), even after updating host settings and portal settings.

My solution was (maybe can help someone with the same problem):

1) Fix records in TabModules table which had ContainerSrc column with the old path
(does anyone know why some records use /Portals/_default/Containers/etc and some others use [G]Containers/etc ?)

2) Reparse my skin packages (Host - Skins - Parse Skin Package)

Hope it helps someone.
