I see that others have experienced this problem but none of their solutions seem to be working for me.

I am using 4.0.3 and can save and retrieve the settings in the Settings page but exactly the same code to get the settings does not work in the View page

i.e.

Dim ItemId As Integer = CType(TabModuleSettings("ItemId"), Integer)

works in one place not the other.

The view page imports:

Imports DotNetNuke
Imports DotNetNuke.Entities.Modules
Imports System.Web.UI
Imports System.Collections.Generic
Imports System.Reflection

and inherits:

 Inherits Entities.Modules.ModuleSettingsBase

The Namespaces are the same in View and Settings pages.

What is going on here?

Actually, a view control should inherit from PortalModuleBase.  To retrieve a setting, reference the property Settings (defined in PortalModuleBase):

Dim ItemId As Integer = CType(Settings("ItemId"), Integer)

Settings is a hashtable which contains a merge of BOTH the ModuleSettings and TabModuleSettings for the module.

If you need to retrieve separate hashtables of ModuleSettings and TabModuleSettings you can use the shared methods:

DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalSettings.GetModuleSettings(ByVal ModuleId As Integer) As Hashtable

and

DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalSettings.GetTabModuleSettings(ByVal TabModuleId As Integer) As Hashtable

That expains it and all is now working perfectly.  Sometimes it just the little things that trip me up.  Your fast and helpful reply got me through a mental block.  That is what Forums are all about.

So Bill, many, many thanks

Geoffrey
