I don't understand the part about "people not remembering their password". Because DNN has a "Password Reminder" button.

Also, can I set the expiration to never? What value would I set it to (e.g. 0)?

And, what might be the negative ramifications of doing such?

Thanks

Jeff

On our site, people don't always remember their username.

No, "never" doesn't work, it has to be a large number -- I think 50 years is the max...

Edit: I just wanted to stress how important this does work though -- because 6 months from now when cookies expire, you'll have a lot of people who don't remember their password and will end up creating new users since it cannot be retrieved via email. And, since Admins cannot identify users by lastactivedate (doesn't update either), Admins will just have to deal with lots of old/orphan users in their database.

You can easily prevent users from registering with the same email address by setting requiresUniqueEmail="true" in the web.config.

What if they no longer had the email address they use to when they registered? There are reasons like this that can make it hard for a user to get their password.

Well, then they have a problem but you will have that on any site. If your email address changes you need to change that on any site that uses the email address. That is the users responsibility. I have a form that the user can use to ask questions if they cannot logon due to such problems. http://www.smallbizserver.net/Default.aspx?tabid=240
