Hi Steve,

The problem is that you can only have one IP address use Port 443.  When you setup the other website it needs to have another IP address assigned.

This is also the reason you cannot use Host Headers in IIS to split websites using the same IP if you want SSL on both.

You have to assign a different IP address for each site that uses SSL on the default port.

This makes great sense. So, I'll assign a different IP address to the website in IIS and change DNS to point the portal's URL to the new IP.

Thanks John!

I just want to report that this solution worked perfectly. In case this helps someone else, let me go over the steps. This presupposes that one has direct access to the server and also available IP addresses.

  1. In IIS, created a new website that points to the same DNN file directory as does the "primary" DNN website.
  2. Purchased an SSL certificate from Thawte for the new site name, installed it on the server through IIS, and in IIS assigned it to the new web site.
  3. In IIS, assigned a new IP address to the separate website (per John's advice above).
  4. Updated DNS to point the domain name to the new IP address.

DSLocalizator can switch between http and https, so you only need to do the same as the last post before me and use DSLocalizator to force a page to be always http or https

Hope it helps

Note: I have many SSL sites working without problems
