I have done this several times and should know better but..

I copied a module to eight pages, that I wanted to use the base setting and text of an existing module.  However, the copied module only links to the original and any changes to one makes changes to all.

Currently modules can:

  1. Be shown on all pages within a portal
  2. Have a copy of itself on any number of pages
  3. Insert a new empty module

Why isn't there an option to "Clone" a module that does not link itself back to the original.  Couldn't this just be an option you check and make a call to a different stored procedure that selects the original and inserts it as a new module in a different tab with no links to the original.

there is a new option to copy or reference modules from a template page when creating a new page. But I agree, it would be preferable, to have a option "create reference" besides "copy exisitng modules" (that now just creates a reference) in the control center. please add this to the public issue tracker at support.dotnetnuke.com
