A suggestion:  It would be nice if the links module had an option (that could be switched on/off) to only show links to items the current user has view rights to.  That is, for links to files & pages, do a security check on the current user, and don't show the link if they don't have access.

Anthony,
I will put this into Gemini as a feature request.

This is exactly what I need the Links module to do on my current project.

I've started to look into merging the links skin object (which does this) and the links PA, but, have not started yet.  It seems they take a whole different approach.

I'd love get a patch that will only show links to "allowed" pages, it would make things much easier.

Thanks,
Greg

A suggestion was entered back in 2006 regarding setting security on the links level.  Have any patches been deployed to handle this need?  We really like the functionality of the DNN platform, but we desperately need to set permissions on the link level.  Do you have any insight on the progress of this request?

Thanks!

Paul

Paul,

The progress on the next version is going on as we speak. There will be a release within the next few months that will include this. Right now, I am in the process of updating the URLControl in the core, this trickles down to the Links module and will help with this feature as well as others.

Please remember that the source is available and you are free to modify it so it will suit the needs of your organization. While this is not exactly what you wanted to hear, it is always an option. I will be updating the roadmap for the module on another thread, but to let you know, we are going to do one more maintenance release of the current 3.x version of Links. I would like to have this done by the end of March. After this has been released, I am then going to continue with the re-write of the module. If you have requests for features, please be sure to add them via the Project Feature Requests page under the product page for the module.

Thank you
