Hey everybody . . . I'd like to first thank the forum users for all of the great information I've read on these forums. My problem is not a big one, but I hope this makes sense:

I've set up my DNN site using Godaddy's value application install of DNN. This forces you to install to a subfolder. My subfolder is "vegasvic". My site's domain is www.vegasvic.biz and I've set up a 301 redirect to the absolute URL of the "home" page at http://www.vegasvic.biz/vegasvic/HomePage/tabid/36/Default.aspx. It wouldn't work if I set the 301 redirect to go to www.vegasvic.biz/vegasvic. I'm using an index.asp 301 redirect. I hear this is the best way to route traffic without sacrificing web spider compatibility.

When I submit a google sitemap of http://www.vegasvic.biz all seems well except for that google says "We can't currently access your home page because of an unreachable error". My subdomain's sitemap http://blog.vegasvic.biz seems to be working fine because it comes back with "Googlebot has successfully accessed your home page. Last crawl date: Aug 11, 2006". For some reason, the main site www.vegasvic.biz just won't seem to work correctly with google sitemaps. The stats seem to be able to see some of my content and common words but I still get those errors.

I'd like to get all of my traffic (including the googlebot) to go through www.vegasvic.biz. Am I looking at having to go elsewhere for hosting that will allow me to install DNN in the root and not a virtual subfolder? I've tried the Godaddy root install workaround with no success. Has anyone else had success using godaddy and getting their sitemaps to work? any help or comments are appreciated!!

Thanks,

Vic

I am having very similar problems using  the GoDaddy value added application.  I'm not sure what a 301 redirect is, but since goglle has only ranked my main page (www.pokerzealots.com), I just created an entry screen (it's really bad atm but I'll be woking on it soon).

When i submit a site map, Google reports all my DNN pages as not found (404 error).  However, I know they are there and when I clcik on the page Google report as not found from Google list I get right to the page.

I am almost to the point that I feel I might be better off starting over again with a different host and creating all the pages with no CMS application at all.

Anyhow, I just wanted you to know your not alon with this type of problem.

This sounds strange but I just noticed today that the less I mess with creating/submitting/moving/deleting my sitemaps it seems as if my number of 404's is going down. For a while there it was showing my main page as a 404 even though it worked. I've left it alone for about two weeks now and a lot of the pages that were 404 before are now ok. I also noticed that it says that google is able to crawl my homepage now. Google now has several of my pages indexed (although some of them are wrong because I created/deleted/recreated them). It seems as if Google is on about a 3 week delay minimum for what is shows in the cache, etc.

Check out 301 redirects by doing a Google search. It is the recommended way to permanently redirect search engines to a different page without losing page status/rank/etc.

You may want to stick with the CMS for a little while to see how it progresses over time.

Vixhex,

If you don't mind me asking - what did you use to generate your sitemap?  I tried installing the free module but since we (GoDaddy mortals) can't change the web.config it blew up my site.  Argh.
