Sebastian,
Thank you very much for your reply. However, can you tell me how to "assign domain as host header" in IIS? That's something new to me and I don't want to expose my ignorance to the IT guy =)

Thanks!
chris

Chris,

in the properties (right click) of your web site or virtual directory there is a tab "Web Site" that has a section "Identification" (or sth. like this, I have to translate, as I currently have only a German system installed) and a text box IP address. Click the "advanced..." button aside, click add and add your IP, port 80 and the web site name as host header. Save your changes.

Cheers from Germany,
Sebastian Leupold

Got it, vielen dank!

Just one more thing (this definitely will help any people searching for this in the future on this forum); what do I put in the Portal Alias so that the domain doesn't resolve to an IP address?

Thanks!

depending on the address of your portal you can enter either

  • myportal.dotnetnuke.com
  • myportal.dotnetnuke.com/dnn (as virtual directory or child portal)
  • localhost
  • localhost/DNN (virtual directory or child portal)
  • 192.168.001.100
  • 192.168.001.100/dnn (virtual directory or child portal)

Difference between virtual directory and child portal: virtual directory needs to be set up in IIS, while child portals are created in DotnetNuke and need a parent portal with according address.

The portal is set up as a parent (I think), portal 0. And I have a dedicated IP and domain for it.

When I put in www.domain.com for the portal alias it cycles, which makes sense, so I'm not sure what to put in there. I intend to only have one portal at the site...
