Yes I know its not the smartest thing to do but it happened

Initially I got and error - well 2 saying

A critical error has occurred.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Then I realised what I had done and replaced the missing defaults skin folders and contents

Then I had a problem browsing to the child portal and get

Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection.
Parameter name: index

[ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection.
Parameter name: index]
   System.Collections.ArrayList.get_Item(Int32 index) +2776445
   DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalSettings.VerifyPortalTab(Int32 PortalId, Int32 TabId) +500
   DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalSettings.GetPortalSettings(Int32 TabId, PortalAliasInfo objPortalAliasInfo) +4984
   DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalSettings..ctor(Int32 tabId, PortalAliasInfo objPortalAliasInfo) +98
   DotNetNuke.HttpModules.UrlRewriteModule.OnBeginRequest(Object s, EventArgs e) +6357
   System.Web.SyncEventExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() +92
   System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) +64

So I look at the Portal and Tab Tables but cant see whats awry any ideas??

I also see that Though I cant log in as an administrator after resetting the password I can log in as a host but the host admin pages are blank whereas the site admin ones seem ok ????????????

I have not found it particularly easy working through this which would be much easier with some documentation of the database tables and process for initialising the app and pages.

Oh and I'd much rather not throw away my work - even if I can get this to a state where I can review the data and export to another instance it should be quicker than starting from scratch

Dave

simply restore the deleted folder from the installation zip.

BTW: do not try to delete the admin directory or the bin folder either!

L

thanks for that but I have done that already

I am getting some really stange behaviour now and think it is due to my database

I have tried to edit text in one text/html box and it just dissapears

The page is above a number that I have set to be invisible as i dont want them just yet

The odd thing is when i try to change the setting for the page with problems I get the same

A critical error has occurred.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Which I also get when I try to update the text or tey to delete the page or add another page

I am sure there is just a small issue with the data but I am going daft trying to see it
