Hi,

I'm trying to find out how I can implement some form of validation on the entry on the username when adding new users and during user registration.

I really need to limit username length to 10 characters and not allow spaces in the username. This is important for me as I'm updating another database where a stricter username format is in place.

I can't seem to find a relevant aspx file where I could just add a max length property to the username textbox and a validator control to check for spaces. I assume therefore that the username control must be created in code?

Please help.

Thanks

Mark

You could go as far to create a custom provider for membership, but to keep it simple (this requires a code change), you could open up controls\user.ascx.

Hi and thanks for replying.

I'm using DNN 4.3.4 and see the controls/user.ascx but when i change this it does not seem to affect the ADD USER module as far as the Username entry is concerned.

It would appear that <dnn:propertyeditorcontrol id="UserEditor"> in admin/Users/user.ascx may have something to do with it. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

This tread is very old, but I notice that the normal DNN behavior allows user to use spaces in the Username!

I want to change this but don't know how to do it... is there any way to require validation for username in 5.x???

I would prefer not to mess with the code if possible!
