We have see today the problem with pdf on local 3.3.4 installation and on http://www.dotnetnuke.com/ self when we will download the documents "Pleas read the Logo Guidelines here" or "Please read Trademark Policy here"

Detailed Effect Description:

We click on the link and a windows-dialog "Filedownload" opens the symbol have not the symbol of a pdf document and in the field type stand "Adobe Acrobet Control for ActiveX". When we click now on open the Adobe Acrobat Reader is startet and comes with the error "An Error by open the document. The file cannot found" or so (We have a german dialog).

We have this Problem reproduced on different 3.3.4 installations on different systems and with different Acrobat-Rader Versions (6.0,7.0,7.7). This Error comes by links in Link-Module and in Documents-Module other modules we have not testet.

When we click in the windows-dialog on save and opens the file local is all ok!

When we can make test for you then contact us we will help to found this important problem.

Thank you.

Have you found an answer to this problem yet? I can't view PDF documents that are linked using DNN either. It's so bad I'm going to have to abondon DNN very soon here unless I find a solution.

Be warned new visitors: DNN can't link to PDF files. I know it sounds simple, but DNN will give errors, blank pages and other problems for users simply trying to view a PDF that was linked to using DNN. I don't believe this bug is being worked on either. In the bug-tracking system the issue was set to "closed" with a "take no action" status as the core team blames Adobe for the problem.

OK, the DNN-Team means Acrobat-Reader is the source of all problems. Wy the problem not exist in DNN 3.2.2?

We works about many years with dnn and will to bring dnn also in goverment areas also we have very hard work on our customer (Goverment Institution) to become the chance to trial DNN 4.3.3 as the next CMS-Portal-System.

On our Test-Installation found our Customer this important problem with the PDF-Documents. Our customer will host over 400-500 PDF-Documents in the portal.

Our Customer cannot customize the Acrobat-Reader Settings on over 800 internal clients and many external clients. The way to customize Acrobat-Reader to support the new CMS is not ok for our customer.

We have become 14 Days for a solution then comes a other CMS-System in the institution. This situation is also not good marketing for us by our longyear customer.

Now we think about the right solution or the right way!

We wait additional 7 days comes a solution or not. When not we must offer a other CMS-System.

This error will be fixed in the next release.  I don't think it'll be available in 7 days though, so I guess we are out of luck.

I hope the problem is also removed from documents module in the next release!

When we become any eventual real timeframe for the release in that removed the problem we can discuss with our great goverment customer to wait of this release before kick dnn out the project and the institution.

Thank you
