I am very interested in how you extended the Membership profile provider to support your "friendster" like functions (nice site by the way!).  How did you add support for birthdate and photos?  Are you using DNN 4.3.4 for your site?

thanks.  i haven't really extended the membership provider -- i'm using dnn 4.3.x profile properties for the birthday, gender, etc and i'm using custom tables for photos, music, friends, etc.

i'm looking for help building my framework.  if you're a programmer hit me up on my website.

Hello,

I'm new to the world of windows forms application and I'm in the process of trying to build a windows forms application that will use a SQL Server 2005 DotNetNuke 4.5 database, and I see that Matt mentioned using a windows forms application for his project (see below).

Is it possible to have internal employees login using the same DNN userid/pwd credentials & mechanism with a winform login control?  I'm trying to determine if it's possible to bring in all the necessary DNN functionality into my windows app.  I assume I somehow need to reference the DNN code files, libraries, classes, etc, etc and I need to follow the same stored procedures to ensure user's & pwd's are created properly, and other things in the db are held in check in terms of referential integrity.  I'm using Visual Studio 2005 Pro.

Thanks in advance.

The primary product is a windows forms application that runs on local computers against a local database; a local server also exposes a web app used by 'kiosk' machines, or users on the public wireless network to handle self manifesting of themselves and others; as well as viewing departure status, etc...

and from this post:

however it would be nice to get the users/roles/membership table data out and into my own data schema so that I can come up with a plan that will allow users to temporaraly work on a windows forms application in a senario when their internet connection goes down.

I think the thing to consider when interfacing with DotNetNuke is that DotNetNuke is constantly changing. You do not want to interface directly with the tables and stored procedures because they can and do change. Always use the API.

The best way to interface with the DotNetNuke API from outside of DotNetNuke is through web services. See IWeb for example code.

The other way is to reference the DotNetNuke.dll assembly. The problem wit this is DotNetNuke works on "Context". Meaning, it needs to know what web address you were trying to access and if you are logged in and if you have cookies ect. If you reference the DotNetNuke.dll assembly you would soon realize that it is hard to get it's methods to do anything because you're missing the "context".

IWeb has example code that demonstrates how to call the DotNetNuke API and pass the required items (for example you usually need to pass the PortalID).
