I followed AdefWebServers instructions with installing this under InetPub going through the steps he lists creating a new virtual directory and accessed the install through the browser and I saw DotNetNuke installing. So I thought ok this is going to work on the Win XP Pro machine that we have been trying to get to work for the better part of 2 days now.

Also had to set permission for ASP.net to access the new folder.

I went into Visual Web Developer 2005 Express to see if I could connect to the Database and could not. I tried modifying the connection by changing the User Instance to False, clicked the test connection and it connects.

So I changed the Webconfig to match in the connection string both places where it talks about User Instance set those to False and  Now the problem is when I go back to the http://localhost/DotNetNuke434/  through the browser it says the following error message

Error Installing DotNetNuke

Current Assembly Version: 04.03.00

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

Which is the error I was getting to start with. Does anyone have DotNetNuke working on an XP Pro Machine and if so what version of IIS are you working with?

Does anyone know if there is an installer for this?

I was having the same problem. I opened the project in VS2005 and realized that the website name was http://localhost/DotNetNuke_2.  So if your Virtual Directory under IIS is names something else than DotNetNuke_2, it will not find the Database.mdf file.

I changed my virtual directory to be DotNetNuke_2 and installation proceeded. However, I got the "thread was being aborted" error so now trying to re-install 434 without some of the modules.

Hope that helps.

If DotNetNuke installed then your web.config was fine. I suspect that the reason you got the error was:

Visual Web Developer Express can cause SQL Server Express to lock.

If you click on the Database Explorer tab...

It will allow you to manage your SQL Server Express database...

But then you get this error when you try to view the site in your web browser:

Error Installing DotNetNuke

Current Assembly Version: 04.03.04

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

The problem is Visual Web Developer Express has locked the database.

Right-click on the database and select Close Connection

Hi, yoyosh.

You do not have to remove the previous path, VS2005 allows you having multiple paths for templates. If you remove it, add it back and then try again (look in MSDN at special delimitators for multiple paths, it might be ';' or space). If it does not work, you should reinstall VS2005 but this time to a different folder without any '#' in its name.

Let me know about it ... Success !

Michael
