Hi,

I would like to allow my registered users to create their own personal page(s) that they can style and use as they like.  Their webpage would be www.mysite.com/johnFrank  where johnFrank would be the user and his/her webpage. The only example I could think of that would be similar would be myspace. The only part that would be like myspace would be allowing the user to have their own webpage.

here are some other examples: http://www.authorsden.com/judyakennedy, http://www.fanstory.com/selectprofilebio.jsp?userid=146629

thanks,
john

Hi John,

In thinking through this, it seems that this is doable, but may be somewhat complex as a solution. I would use a parent portal to accomplish www.mysite and use a Friendly URL scheme to map incoming URL request (www.mysite.com/johnFrank) to a page (www.mysite/tabid/25/default.aspx, which is the page created by johnFrank.  For a registered user to be able to create a page, they would need to  have access to the admin menu (may not be desirable), specifically the tabs page. For them to be able to style a page (not add modules), they would need to be allowed to either modify existing css files or upload new skins. I'm  not sure how to accomplish this on a per registered user basis unless all users were assigned to a customized user group with specific permissions.  The next thing I would explore is the use of templates to automate much of what I have mentioned. These are just my ideas about thinking through what you're trying to accomplish.  I am not seasoned at this so if anybody else wants to jump in and correct my thinking or point to a different strategy, I would appreciate the opportunity to learn more.
