I have a fully developed portal that has been working just fine for over a year and then suddenly, DNN acts as though the portal does not exist.  When I go to http://cubscoutpack142.org I get an error saying that the server does not exist.  I naturally assumed there was a DNS problem and contacted my host.  After a couple of days of going round and round with them, I've now come to the conclusion that this problem exists because of DNN.  The reason that I've come to this conclusion is because I added a different alias, houseoflees.com, to the same portal as cubscoutpack142.org and browsed to houseoflees.com...same result (server not found).  So, to confirm what was happening I then added a new portal and moved the houseoflees.com domain over to it.  I can now browse to houseoflees.com...  So, it's definitely not a DNS problem.

When this all started, I was running v3.3.4.  In hopes that an upgrade would help things, I have since upgraded to v4.3.4 with no change in the status.  I have several other portals running on the same DNN instance that work great.

This all started a few minutes after I added a new portal.

This site has been down for over two days now and I've run out of ideas except to try and roll back from tape backup which my host tells me will cost $60...

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!

please make sure, that your web site is configured correctly as application in IIS management.

I had a similar strange behavior yesterday.

The site has been running just great couple of months, then yesterday suddenly, it just say's the page can not be shown.

The IIS settings was fine, same with the applications pool.

I had to stop the iis web for the current web, and make a new iis web to the same folder. Then I runs just great.
I tried to restore iis, files and db - it didn't resolve this strange behavior.

Are you the HOST of the sites? or just Admin of your own Portals? if you are the Host, take a close look at your portalalias table and make sure all of the names you use are properly listed. Also, do you manage IIS yourself? You have to make sure that your DNS names map properly to your IIS virtual directory (so your port numbers and HOST HEADERS must all be consistent between DNN and IIS and DNS). Also, if a request gets forwarded by IIS to a DNN virtual root, DNN then does its own portal lookup. If it cannot find a portalalias that matchies (I BELIEVE) DNN uses the Portalalias with PortalID=1 as the default portal to handle all requests. Make sure your portalaliases are correct and double check that the new portal somehow did not become PortalID=1.

That's not the problem since other portals pointing to the same instance of DNN are working just fine.
