Google has started rolling out it's hosted services, one of which is a hosted email service a la GMail, but using your own domain name.

Unfortuately, Google requires you to connect to their SMTP servers via a non-standard port, using an SSL connection, neither of which are configurable via DNN's SMTP configuration section.

It would be wonderful if the SMTP port and SSL can also be configured in DNN, in addition to the other SMTP settings.

Alternate SMTP ports were added a couple versions ago.  Just enter the mail server address with a colon and the port on the end.

e.g.   smtp.gmail.com:465

we don't have auth over SSL though, but that should be easy enough to add.

Looks like it just needs another field:

 mailMsg.Fields.Add("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpusessl", "true");

I'll add that in for the next release.

Thanks John - that's great news!

PS : I've been beta testing Google's hosted email service for a non-DNN site and it works a treat. If you can get in during the beta testing phase, Google will continue to offer the service to you free of charge after the beta testing phase is over. So if anyone is interested, sign up now while the offer is still good :)

Sign-up is at https://www.google.com/a/

I should add for the sake of clarity that you should be able to use Google's SMTP server using a regular xxx@gmail.com account as well, although I'm not sure if that is allowed by their AUP.
