After spending a whole day atttempting this install (at least 25 attempts on Visual Web Developer) and posting 5 questions (none of which have found an answer) I have run out of time and patience. I think I will try and devote whats left of my weekend trying to find another framework where hopefully, I will at least be able to get past the install.

What did stike me as amusing was the point of view of some posters that if DNN works in some scenarios, people that are struggling must be doing something wrong and that they had not read the install document. ( which related to build 4.0.2, a version not even available for download off this site) Now its seems that one other possible answer is to download the 3.x version attempt an upgrade.

I suppose you only have one question to ask yourself if you want to attempt this route : Are you feeling lucky ?

I think the concept of DNN is brilliant but its worth nothing if it cant be executed. After all , there is too much at stake for a large commercial web site.

DNN is fairly easy to install. The installation senerio has not changed all that much in a long time. What kind of problems did you experience? If you give the details of what you experienced then someone should be able to point out the problem.

Assuming you have Asp.Net 2.0 configured properly in your case since this is 4.x and you have SQL server setup properly what ever version then the install is fairly easy. I'll give you a quick and easy way to get it up.

Create your Database and assign a user as owner of the DB.

Edit the web.config and change the connection strings to match your DB. This is different whether you are using SQLExpress or SQL Server. Make sure you are editing the correct entries. Comment out the ones you do not need.

Make sure the Network Service Account or Asp.Net account has full permissions over the directory where DNN is installed.

Create your website or virtual directory and make sure default.aspx is setup as a default document type and that it is setup to use Asp.Net 2.x.

Hit the site and as long as you have everything above set up correctly then it will install. If you have done all this and are still having trouble post back the specifics and we'll see hwat may be going on.

Hello

Dotnetnuke installation is very easy. I think u didn't read the manual properly.

I think u have problem with connection string in the web.config.

First create an empty database set the login then password put those fields in the web.config

secondly u have to add networkservice ... right click on folder and go to security tab and type networkservice select full control. U must add aspnet service also

Third step  is just execute the application ... Very easy .... don't make complicate u r self.

I m sorry to hear that.  Reminds me of my first COBOL application I wrote in college 12 years ago .  If you need help I will be more than happy to assist from the download of the source to skinning etc. .... No Problem.  However, if you just want to get a DNN website up and running and could care less about how to install DNN I can also help with that.  With that said, you now have no reason to not experience the beauty of DNN.  Are you in?
