hello, i use dnn 4.3.4 and i have a small but annoying problem.
The problem i have is that i have multiple portals and customers who are using accounts in several different portals. Since the last version i cannot create identical usernames for different sites. Which is very annoying. I have for instance a website for roleplaying and i want logon with the same name as my technical domain. I also redirect users form one domain to another. A rpg player with a technical computerproblem will be redirected to my it-pro site. but... there he/she needs to create a new and different name. (the portal does not allow the same name in the next portal.

This is very annoying, and forces me to create new databases for every site. (i have 40 domains and i edit content for several under one name. that was no problem, but it is now.)

How can i fix this? if i am selling websites and editing services i need to work under my standard name. but i cannot login on other website/domains with the same name (in the same DNN userbase)...

Running a new install of 4.3.4 and also have the same problem with usernames.  I have customers with multiple portals, but can't create new portals with a username that already exists on ANY other portal.  I've seen a couple other posts regarding this but nothing indicating it is being addressed.

I have had more problems with usernames.. In the earlyer versions i used to create multiple portals for some of my friends. I wanted to use "Admin" as standard login for every admin. Later i found out that the information in that admin account reflected in other domains (within the same install base) so at first i ended up in constantly editing e-mail adresses to the correct one... just to notice that it would be incorrect for the other domains. (very frustrating.)

Later i decided to dive into the SQL tables and find out more. So i was surprised to see that they seem to address the account problem, but also introduced a new problem. I think that every account should be unique inside a protal, but not unique inside the database. so if i create a portal1, portal2, portal3 etc... i should be able to create 3 times the same user.  (my customers think that they have a standalone website and if they have a account on my company website they cannot use the same logon credentials anymore inside the (supposedly new and empty website...) portal they just bought. (ever tryed to explain why an empty portal is refusing names?.... its awkward...)

I hope that they address it and fix it. (maybe i should address it somewhere else?)

It is possible to register a user using a username that they have already registered in another portal. This is what you do (this works in DNN 4.3.4 and I think it worked under previous versions also):

The user must register in portal #2 with the same username AND password as they have in portal #1. Other details (such as email address) do not seem to have to match.

If the username and password match an existing account in portal #1, membership of portal #2 is added to the existing account. A new account is actually not created, and you can verify this by seeing that the user's ID number is the same in the Edit User page on both portals.

Thereafter, changes to the User Credentials (First Name, Last Name, Display Name, Email Address and Password) on portal #1 also apply to portal #2 (because it is the same user account in both portals).

Running 4.3.4, and I've tried creating a new portal and adding an existing user, doesn't work (User already exists).  I've also tried creating the portal with a new user as admin, then tried to register using a name that exists on another portal, doesn't work (User already exists).

I could live with it if it did work as you explained, but in my tests it does not do that.  Ideally the users should be completely separate within each portal.  The way it works now it is a major problem.  It is not realistic to expect users to have to use a different login for every portal I host, and is even a bigger problem to expect that admins who manage multiple portals must use a different login for each.
