Are you sure that the password you entered for the new user was the same as the password for the existing user? I am sure it works this way because my own login is set up on multiple sites in my own company, and I tried adding myself to a new portal right before posting the last message.

I've tried several times and it always comes back with a 'User already exists'.  On several sites I'm the admin, and it won't even let me add an existing username as an admin when I create the portal.

When I tried it I clicked Add New User from the User Accounts page. Did you do this, or did you click the Register link? I don't know if this makes a difference, just trying to see what we are doing different.

Logged in as admin for the portal, went to Admin/User Accounts, then tried to add an existing account.  Get "A User Already Exists For the Username Specified. Please Register Again Using A Different Username." error message.

If I logout, then try to register using the existing name I get the same "A User Already Exists For the Username Specified. Please Register Again Using A Different Username.".  In both cases the user I'm trying to add is a user registered in another portal (the user has admin rights in the other portal).

Just tried again using a different name and it worked as you describe.  Not sure what the difference might be.  The username I was trying originally is registered on a child portal and I could not register it on a different parent portal.  In the second case I was able to register a user that exists on a parent portal on a child portal.  I'll try a couple more and see if that is related to why it works sometimes.

I am getting the same error message.  It didn't start until I deleted the user from a portal and tried to login with that user again.  I am using Windows Authentication, so the account should automatically be readded to the list of users.  Instead I get:

"A User Already Exists For the Username Specified. Please Register Again Using A Different Username."
