I installed DNN 4.3.4 on my XP and everything worked fine through testing it with webdev.webserver.  Everything compiled and I was able to log into the portal.  When I tried to host DNN through IIS I got the following error:

Server Application Unavailable
The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable.  Please hit the "Refresh" button in your web browser to retry your request.

I suspect the reason I am getting the error has to do with IIS configuration.  For development/testing, I want to run DNN 4.3.4 on my XP machine, which runs IIS 5.1.  I'm currently running a publicly accessible website behind a Linksys router. The router has a public IP and routes port 80 requests to my Windows 2003 server running IIS 6.0. No problem.

I now want to run both IIS 5.1 on the XP for development/testing and continue to use IIS 6.0 on the 2003 server and have both respond to HTTP requests on port 80 (localhost access on the XP and public http requests on the 2003 server).  Can I do this or am I pushing the edge of the envelope?

I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this question.

So you want to type in www.domainname.com on the XP machine and have it connect to the local install and you want any other connection attempts to go to www.domainname.com on the 2003 box? If so, then just change your hosts files on the XP box. Add your domain in the hosts file and point it to 127.0.0.1 as the IP. This should work for you.

As far as the Server Application error, check your IIS settings on this machine and make sure its set up for asp.net properly.

You will need seperate installs on exach box but you could have them connect to the same DB. Of course this is not a good senerio for upgrades, etc.. unless you are very careful a bout taking the production site down. There are other options for keeping a development platform and production seperate but in sync. I'm not really sure what the end goal is here so I won't suggest them now.
