Hi all,

Can anyone tell me why when attempting to alter any module, page or the site settings that it takes around 2 minutes for the settings page to display. Many times the browser fails with a timeout error. All other admin requests are really fast.

Example

I add a TEXT/HTML module to a page and click module settings to change something, 2 mins later the page is displayed or browser timeout (90% of the time).

If I click 'Edit text' in the same module it displays almost instantly, as does the updated text etc.

This behaviour is the same for all module, page and site settings and is VERY annoying if i want to make small quick changes.

BTW, my site is hosted on Godaddy - incase that could be a cause.

Thanks

Paul

this is not a typical behaviour. Please describe your environment in detail

  • shared portal or individual installation
  • RAM available
  • Number of pages im portal

I have found that the host does have a lot to do with it.  I have tried about 5 different host companies and they varied with response time.  My current host ihostasp.net  is great.  I haven't had any problems like you are describing with them but I did with some other companies.

What I don't understand, is what is different about the module setting, page settings and site settings pages from all of the other admin tasks that could cause such slow response from the server?

All other aspects of the site are fast.

As my domain in hosted on GoDaddy I guess it will be on a shared server with many other domains running.

However, I only have 11 pages on my site with about 15 modules - most of those are simple text/html modules.

The settings pages were not this slow when I started constructing the site, but it seems for each extra page it gets worse. Now I cannot edit any settings as yesterday I added a page and now it ALWAYS times out before displaying the settings page((
