Hello all:

I am having a problem with the FreeTextBox component in a new 4.3.4 site. I’ve narrowed down the problem to Internet Explorer (works okay in Firefox and Netscape) while trying to edit text in Rich mode, but only on a rich column of a User Defined Table. Editing rich text on a Text/HTML module works fine. The problem is consistent across multiple UDTs on different pages. What happens is that the whole UDT edit page freezes, if there was text in the text box, it never appears, the control is just frozen. The problem even happens in a new row of a new UDT. The menu works though, and I can navigate to other pages. What I’ve been doing is to connect to the site with FireFox and change to toggle the control to Basic. Then, next time I come to edit with IE, it works okay, but just in basic mode.

By the way, IE displays an error on the lower right corner that says:
Line: 43
Char: 3
Error: Expected ‘;’
Code: 0

I don’t think is a permissions issue, the problem happens whether I run DNN from my local PC or from the server on the local network. I have tried having the site in the Trusted Site zone as well as the Local Intranet zone. There are no exceptions in the logs, the site works fine otherwise.

I noticed that there is a new version of the FreeTextBox DLL at their site. I tried to use it (yes, the version for .Net 2.0) and that went bad, it would crash the whole page. I went back to the version shipped with DNN 4.3.4.

Am I the only one having this problem??? Any ideas???

Thanx.

Carlos

Carlos,

I just tried the module with DNN 4, IE6, latest FCK version and had no issues. The message in your browser seems to state an JavaScript issue, but we do not use JavaScript at all so it must be either in Core or FCK.

Leupold:

Wait a second, I am using the default rich text editor, which is FreeTextBox, not FCK, correct? Were you aware of this when you answered my initial post? If not, do you have anything else to suggest me to try?

Thanx.

Carlos

Carlos,

I am working with IE6, FTB, UDT and Rich Text columns without any problem. You postet error points to a javascript error I am not aware off. I know that sometimes skins causes this kind óf trouble - not speaking for UDT but all kind of javasrip related issues inside UDT.

I would suggest that you change temporarily your admin skin & container to a dnn default skin and try again.

Other idea:
For some time ago I have had an similar error which was caused by caching inside client and our proxy server - every call of a dnn side caused an javascript error inside IE - but it still worked in FF and Opera. It was so curious that I added a new host header to my existing side and this side (the same but with a different host header worked fine even in IE). It was on a Friday, back on Monday everything was fine again....

Stefan:

Thank you for your recommendations.

My FTB problems continue, even after upgrading to 4.3.5. I entered debug mode from IE using VS 2005 and found that the error Expected ‘;’ happens in line 42 of FreeTextBox.js, which is, this.previewPane = eval(this.id + "_previewPane");

My problems are consistently with the UDT, it does not happen in other modules that use FTB. I know, weird.

I already tried to call the site using a new host header, added a new UDT, set the skin to one of the defaults, and the problem continues.

By the way, is it possible to upgrade the FTB component??? I tried to copy the DLL and the JS files to the appropriate places, rebooted IIS, but it did not work, so I went back to the original versions.

Any ideas…
