Issues with PDF's have already been reported and well documented. Please do not start anymore threads about them as they will be locked.

For now this will be the official PDF thread for the links module.

Known Issues

  1. PDF links open in blank windows (Sometimes multiple)
  2. PDF links do not render properly
  3. [potential bug] Imported PDF links do not have proper permissions to view file

Any more updates to this issue will be made here.

The PDF behavior started when we upgraded from 3.3.3 to 3.3.4.  Similiar problems seem to be manifested in the TEXT/HTML and Repository modules.

Some developers are installing a patch from freednnstuff.com that supposedly patches the ftb editor.  Others are patching the HTML provider code themselves and recompiling.

Are you working with the other core module developers that are affected?  I am sorely tempted to make the changes to the HTML provider core and recompile, but I'm not sure if that is the problem that is affecting all modules.  Or is it something in the new security?

Can you give us some guidance as what to do in the meantime?  Also I cannot find any information if all if this is fixed in the 3.3.5 replease that went to Platinums.

Thanks for any soothing words on the subject .

At this time, the core team is handling this issue. As far as what is causing the issue, I have not had enough time to research the issue thoroughly enough to pin-point the exact issue. What i do know is that the issue is not with the Links module itself and does reside in the core. Me personally, I would be leary about using a "FIX" from any site other than the offical DNN site. Often times and issue can actually reside in a place other than where the fix takes place. Also, their issues only fixes TEXT / HTML module and does not say anything about this module or any others.

I am sorry the words cannot be more encouraging, but I do know they are working on it and I believe in another post they address it will be releases on the X.X.5 release.

Hi Alex,

Well, we loaded 3.3.5 and everything works fine now.  Although if we use the text module and select 'open in new window', it opens a single window and that becomes the PDF window with PDF reader in the browser.  If we use the links moudle and select 'open in new window', it opens a new window and then another window opens with just the Reader application (not in IE).  If we close Reader, there still is the blank window besides the original web site page with the links module.

I assume this is not the expected behavior?  Shouldn't it work like the TEXT/HTML link function?

Thanks for the semi-encouraging words on the status of this fix.  It was a pleasant suprise that they released it so soon after it went to Platinums.

I have tried to reproduce the way in which it is doing it the TEXT/HTML module and it is not even working for me, the link it provides does not even produce a valid link.

Can you please list the steps you are doing to add a link to the TEXT/HTML module? I would like to replicate this
