Hello,

I'm working on a project where we use a console-based functional test engine to make sure that key use cases work.  Most of this involves working with business objects that are fairly self contained and are DNN-agnostic, however!

... one of the things that the client needs is a "renew subscription" module.  They keep track of their subscriptions via the expiration date of a DNN role.    The code was working in 4.0.3, but is broken in 4.3.4.  -- mostly because they bypassed the DNN API and went directly to calling stored procedures.

What I would like to do is rewrite it using the DNN API's, however, i'd also like to keep the functional test around the whole thing.  As the functional tests run under a console application, i'm wondering if its possible to reference and use DNN API libraries from a console app?

To try to be more clear -- the console app would do something like this:

- read configuration for "which user to use" (test user)
- clear and reset the user with almost expiring roles
- call the business logic that renews the roles  <-- same as called by UI
- check that everything worked ok.

If anybody has any experience this this, please let me know!  In the mean time, i'm off to go experiment.

I very quickly gave up on the idea of continuing to use a console app.
I'm switching over to the idea of having a functional test within a DNN module itself, with little "chapters" along the way.. each chapter runs (similar to the DNN install), and then waits for a Next> button to be clicked (so the developer can sniff around).   Provide the tests with a stream to write to and some exception handling... i should be good to go!

I can then do the full use case scenario for the user.. everything from new user sign up thru expiration.

Thanks!
