A feature that I really would love to see in DNN would be a "deny-access/writing" option on the tab/module level in the same way as there is an "allow-access/wringing" option on a per role basis.

For the moment one might define the access/writing-rights to a specific tab or module for each role by checking the "Read" or "Write" ckeckbox  – what about adding 2 checkboxes just next to these where one might "Deny Read" and "Deny Write" access? This would give more flexibility.

For example: you would like to show a page to all registered users, but not to those who are subscribers of "Accepted conditions". Or you have a food-store; you would like to show a page "eat meat" for information to all users, but not to those who have the role "vegetarian"…

With this add-on it'll be easy!

Concerning the logic: the deny-access/wringing check should prime on the allow-access/wringing.

What about this?

Regards,

Fabian

I tried to make the case for this about a year ago. I'd love to see it. It would then mirror security on Windows. Most portals do it this way.

Hello Jason,

I would be very interested in reading the discussion you're refering to - could you give me a link?

It was on the asp.net forums which I can't seem to get to anymore. The only comment I remember is one of the core team claiming it was redundant. I made the case that it was not, although I forget how the scenario goes. It's more than just organizational... there is at least one instance where deny is needed...

Here are all your posts in asp.net in the old DotNetNuke Forum. Could you tell me which treats my concern?
