I don't think the SOLPARTMENU will do the indent but you can create a simple vertical menu quite easily by modifying the ASCX control (or the XML file prior to parsing your HTML file). The rest is a manipulation of the CSS file to get the cell borders to display correctly.

I too looked at skinning the solpartmenu and also tried the housemenu but the best for simple vertical menus is definitely inventua's side menu. Yes, it's a ommercial module but it's inexpensive and instead of spending hours trying to get free menus to work the way you need them, I prefer to buy a working solution.

Does DNN SideMenu (inventua) need any modification to the skin to work ?

Yes, you have to add it to the skin like any other skin object (the option can be found on the inventua site)
