Hey All,

I am new to DND, trying to install it for the first time.  I have followed all the steps in the Installation guide for making the settings etc, but when I try to connect to DND so that it can start to auto-install, I keep getting an HTTP 403 Forbidden error.  I have downloaded the  DND 3.3.4 package.  Also I am using Microsoft SQL Server 2003.

Any ideas to help me?

Thanx!

It sounds like the source of your problem is that the Microsoft .NET framework is not installed correctly, or is not registered correctly within Internet Information Services. Internet Information Services is telling you that it does not recognise DNN's default page (default.aspx).

Can you check that you have the .NET framework installed? Either version 1.1 or version 2.0 will work with DNN 3.3.4 but 1.1 is recommended.

If it is installed, then try running this Windows command (through the Start/Run dialog) to reregister .NET:

C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\aspnet_regiis.exe -c (if you have .NET 1.1)

or:

C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe -c (if you have .NET 2.0)

Thanx for your reply.  I ran the command you posted for .NET 1.1, but its still not working.  Although, I did get a new error message:

Server Error in '/DotNetNuke' Application.

Access denied to 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DotNetNuke\'. Failed to start monitoring file changes.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.Web.HttpException: Access denied to 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DotNetNuke\'. Failed to start monitoring file changes.

Source Error:

Good, this actually is progress! It means .NET is now working and you have revealled a deeper problem.

It looks like the file & folder permissions are not set correctly. Go to the setup instructions and review the part about file & folder permissions.

Note: it is not enough to just grant the ASPNET/NETWORK SERVICE account full control on the DNN folder. You have to click the Advanced button and check the box "Replace permission entries on all child objects ..."
