Hi Anna,

  1. No - no user information is stored in the Groups module - there is a GroupUser assoication table but this is a separate table. What information do you mean specifically?
  2. No, but as always the Smart-Thinker Solution Suite would give the best experience - for example whenever you see a user's name you can click on it and see their profile. The next version will have a "Add to Group" on the UserProfile module (like MySpace does) to add a user to a group you are in). It also integrates with Ventrian's Private Messages so you can send messages to all the users in your group, but again, this is optional. Likewise with the Smart-Thinker Events you can add By Group which is one of the most requested features.
  3. User's can create a public or private group - why don't you create an accont on PokerDIY and try it (unless you can wait until tomorrow ;) IF it is a public group then you can choose if it is joinable or not. If it is not then only you as the Group Owner can invite other members.
  4. No, you don't have that level of control just yet. Once you have player around with it please raised individual requests as Feature Requests on Smart-Thinker and I'll transform them into solid requirements for the next version if they make sense. I like the idea of Max number of members - this overlaps with Event slightly...

I tried to keep as true to MySpace's implementation as possible - if you look at this Create Group screen on MySpace (you need to be logged in) you'll see that they have a couple more options, like other Group Members being able to invite other members etc. I have captured all these ideas for the next version.

The Categories use the core Lists, so it ships with 3 and you can change and add your own (that's the "Social"/"Amateur" etc. on PokerDIY on search by category). The tags are freetext comma-delimited strings that the Group Owner enters...

Wow!

That sounds brill, i will definitely be logging-on tomorrow.

We have a site for a professional organisation/group, and they have internal grading etc...what I am looking for, is the ability to allow members with specific qualifications to join specific groups...

Sounds like this could be what we are looking for.

Anna

Hmmm - I was just thinking about the WHO can join a group - I was thinking the Join Group/Leave Group button could be a module action, and controlled by the Edit Role (or a custom Module Role). The problem with this is that then the Admin would need to set it up so they decide who can join a group - ie. it would not be data-driven.

Conversely - Roles often mean nothing to normal users, who are making the group. This version actually has a new setting to hide the "Add Users By Role" button (just like inviting users one at a time but by role) because I realised that no one on PokerDIY is going to know or care what a Role is. Hence you can either not display it or display it for admin only.

Even if you exposed the roles to the group creator, I still don't think they would know enough about roles or who is in waht role to be able to say WHO can join their group?
